VIOLET SOL – THE PURPLE SUN – 9 DANISH PAINTERS

PRESS RELEASE

VIOLET SOL is a Danish expressionist group of artists founded in 1970 by Per Baagøe, Gunnar Møller, Niels Reumert, Finn Hjortskov Jentsen, Uffe Christoffersen, Jens Haugen-Johansen, Kit Mosegård Bruun, Jørgen Teik Hansen and Ole Sylvest Jacobsen, all young artists trained at the Copenhagen Art Academy. Since its foundation, the group has made a strong impact on the Danish exhibition scene and in recent years has also gained publicity abroad.

The common denominators of VIOLET SOL are expressiveness, flaming colours, spontaneity and emotion. As individuals, the artists in the group are of course quite different from one another, as VIOLET SOL has no restrictions on the means of expression or subject matter. The artists are inspired by the smallest things in everyday life: people, landscapes, literature, distant lands…

VIOLET SOL exhibition is organised at the Pori Art Museum through the Nordic Art Centre, and will be on display in the Nordic Art Centre’s exhibition space in Suomenlinna in Helsinki in the spring.
