The 60th anniversary retrospective of sculptor Kauko Räike highlights his artistic journey from the 1950s to the present day.
Kauko Räike (b. 1923, Pori) graduated from high school in 1945 and pursued studies at the School of Applied Arts from 1947 to 1950. He worked as an independent artist in Kankaanpää from 1950 to 1965 and has been based in Rauma since 1972. In 1965, he initiated the establishment of Finland’s third daytime art school in Kankaanpää, where he served as principal from 1965 to 1972. Since the 1950s, Räike has participated in exhibitions and held solo shows. In recognition of his contributions to art, he was awarded the honorary title of Professor by the President of Finland in 1983.
Räike’s work evolved from early figurative pieces through transitional phases to a refined abstract form. He is also renowned for his numerous public sculptures, which are featured in the exhibition through sketches and photographs.
