A REGIONAL EXHIBITION OF PROVINCE TURKU AND PORI AND PROVINCE OF ÅLAND
The regional exhibition system was established in 1974. Initially, its purpose was to provide new talents with the opportunity to display their works and potentially gain recognition among the art audience. During the first two years, all submitted works were included in the exhibitions. However, the overwhelming number of entries exceeded the available exhibition space, leading to the implementation of juries.
In the Turku and Pori region, including Åland, interest in the regional exhibition remained high in 1989: a total of 258 artists or artist groups submitted 742 works for consideration. The jury selected 95 works from 35 artists or groups. The jury consisted of painter Pekka Nevalainen, printmaker Kirsi Tiittanen, sculptor Airi Salosmaa, and curator Janne Koski.
