RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION – TAISTO AHTOLA
PRESS RELEASE
Taisto Ahtola, a painter born in Pori in 1917, will present an extensive retrospective of his work at the turn of October and November. The exhibition has been put together in a way to celebrate Taisto Ahtola’s retirement as curator of the Hämeenlinna Art Museum. A publication on Taisto Ahtola’s life and work will be published at the same time.
Throughout his career, Taisto Ahtola has always represented a purely picturesque way of working. The exhibition includes a selection of works from his earlier dark-toned period, through the experimental, abstract sack works of the 1960s, to the bright paintings of recent decades. The lively exhibition includes large-scale church scenes, circus characters from clowns to jugglers, fresh landscapes, rag dolls, self-portraits…
Taisto Ahtola has worked as a primary school teacher for a long time and since 1953 as the curator of the Hämeenlinna Art Museum. He has been active in the art world, for example as chairman of Union of Finnish Art Associations.
Taisto Ahtola has participated in exhibitions since 1948, having previously studied under Mikko Oinonen. He has been awarded numerous prizes and grants and his work has been acquired by numerous important collections in Finland.
