Sinikka Räike’s 60th birthday celebration exhibition is part of a series of solo exhibitions organized within the framework of the Pori Art Museum’s regional museum activities. These retrospective exhibitions aim to provide a comprehensive view of the nature and development of Satakunta’s art over an extended period. By presenting these exhibitions as a whole, the museum seeks to outline the trends in the region’s visual art phenomena and highlight shifts in their focal points over time.

For Sinikka Räike’s exhibition, an extensive documentation of the artist’s diverse body of work was conducted. According to current inventory records, her oeuvre includes 71 sculptures and 180 paintings. In addition to these works, a selection of the artist’s sketches and drawings was documented as part of the regional museum’s initiative. During the research phase of the exhibition, personal newspaper clippings and documents belonging to both Sinikka Räike and her husband, sculptor Kauko Räike, were microfilmed.

Interviews with the artist and her husband, along with the collected archival material, have been deposited in the Pori Art Museum as part of the Satakunta Visual Arts Central Archive. (This collection includes, for example, microfilmed newspaper clippings related to the establishment of the Kankaanpää Art School in 1965 and its activities until 1972, marking the end of Kauko Räike’s tenure as director.)

Many of the paintings and sculptures featured in the exhibition, as well as numerous works loaned for inventory and photography purposes, are owned by private individuals or organizations. The exhibition and its foundational research have been made possible thanks to the generosity of these lenders, who kindly provided access to their pieces.
