Opening reception: 26.09.2014 from 6:00 PM
The Pori-based artist collective T.E.H.D.A.S. ry transforms the Hall of the Pori Art Museum into an ever-changing parallel reality where organic growth, performance art, and digital culture merge into one. Works selected from the collections of the Pori Art Museum and the Satakunta Museum are integrated into the installation, creating a meeting point between living and non-living art. A diverse program of events kicks off with the opening and continues throughout the exhibition.
T.E.H.D.A.S. (Taide Eheyttää Harmonisoi Dada Anarkiaa Suomeen – Art Heals, Harmonizes, Brings Dada Anarchy to Finland) adopts a critical stance toward depicting perceived reality and directs its focus to the realm behind the visible world. The emphasis is on mystical, metaphysical, and dreamlike atmospheres, as well as themes of imagination. The visible world is seen as real only in how it reflects the eternal and unchanging reality of visible Dada. Their approach to nature is pantheistic, monistic, and Freud-inspired mystical. Geosophy, seeking the primal knowledge of landscapes, universal Dada, reconciliation, and anarchist harmony, underpins their vision. The structure of the organism and the universe is seen as identical, where spiritual and artistic intentions achieve fulfillment through mutual dependence and occurrences.
The observable external world and the inner experiential realm are interconnected. Hyperbolism incorporates intuition and ecstatic experiences, through which humans are believed to connect with the primal essence of existence. The imagery of the mental landscape is intuitive and universal—products of imagination. Landscapes emerge in perception from the interplay of the mind, thoughts, and feelings. Nature is metaphorically embraced as spiritual and soulful spaces where the present violently fuses with the past. The artist’s emotional experience, sense of belonging, and presence are central themes. Hyperbolists explore existential questions: who is that, who are they, where do they come from? Contemplating the spiritual future also brings death-related landscapes and places into the realm of artistic exploration.
