The Pori Art Museum presents two different compilations of British video art, mostly from the 1990s, in the project room. The series are curated by Gregor Muir and produced by LEA – London Electronic Arts.
The videos in these series feature a wide range of well-known names from British contemporary art. British art that emerged in the 1990s as an international phenomenon does not have a unifying style but has come about through the diverse productions of individual artists, most of whom were born in the 1960s. Artists use various methods and forms of expression simultaneously, and video has become one of the main tools, alongside installations, painting, and photography.
Most of the videos in the Super Feelings series represent low-budget productions, often resembling home videos, where the subject is frequently the artist themselves or people met on the streets and in clubs. The setting is usually the artist’s home, studio, or public places. Similarly, material from popular culture (advertisements, television, film) is often borrowed and applied.
The first compilation (October 14 – November 1) includes videos by the following artists:
