STORIES AFTER THE ORGY – JARI AALTO-SETÄLÄ, JOUNI KESTI (MUSIC)

PRESS RELEASE

Stories After the Orgy stems from a desire to examine the habits associated with storytelling and its reception. As the subject is explored within the context of an art museum, the focus lies on visual storytelling. In this domain, advertising, music videos, and traditional narrative cinema play a prominent role. These forms of storytelling share the simultaneous use of three expressive elements—sound, text, and image—just as the featured artwork does.

This video installation, Stories After the Orgy, is rooted in reinterpretations of four Grimm’s fairy tales (Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, and The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs). It consists of fifteen “temples” through which viewers can freely navigate, moving from one story to another.

The work delves into narrative styles, the connection between memory and gaze, and the interplay between sound, image, and text in vying for the viewer’s attention, while also exploring the implications of fragmenting linear storytelling.

But above all, it recounts four tales that carry moral lessons.
