75TH ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION OF THE PORI ART AND CRAFTS ASSOCIATION
PRESS RELEASE
The Pori Art and Crafts Association was founded in 1907. At that time, the fifth largest industrial city in the country had a population of just over 16 000. The city, like the rest of the country, was going through a period of boom. Industrialisation was well under way. There was room for culture. The boom, combined with the high national self-esteem that had been awakened in the previous century, inspired a particular interest in Finnish art and industry. There was a desire to recognise and support Finnish culture. The birth of the Pori Art and Crafts Association is therefore not surprising. What is surprising is that so few such associations were established in our country as they were.
The exhibition included works by the following artists:
Grigori Auer, Willy Baer, Emil Cedercreutz, Gambogi Elin Danielson, J.W. Dielhardt, Albert Gebhardt, Elis Ismari, Hugo Koivuniemi, Ensio Lamberg, Reino Lehikoinen, Into Linturi, Viktor Malmberg, Kaisa Mäkelä, Otto Mäkilä, Jussi Pohjonen, Antti Saarela, Alpo Sailo, Olga Schehanova-Schishkova, Lennart Segerstråle, Vilho Sjöström, Anna Snellman, Eero Snellman, Eveliina Särkelä, Johannes Takanen, Erkki Tanttu, Aukusti Tuhka, Einari Vehmas and Jussi Vikainen
