PAINTINGS FROM YEARS 1957-1984 – ANJA KARKKU-HOHTI

PRESS RELEASE

Noormarkku-based artist Anja Karkku-Hohti has long been a prominent figure in the visual arts scene of Satakunta. She has actively participated in numerous exhibitions and worked tirelessly to promote art and culture through various organizations.

This exhibition is part of a series organized by the Pori Art Museum to highlight Satakunta’s local visual artists.

In conjunction with the exhibition, and as part of its regional art museum operations, the Pori Art Museum has collaborated with the artist to catalog a significant portion of her body of work. This inventory includes works and sketches dating back to her student days at The Fine Arts Academy of Finland. The documentation process involved recording artwork details and photographing most of the pieces. By the time the exhibition catalog was printed, 130 works had been inventoried, with the total expected to increase after the inventory is finalized.

The interviews and archival materials collected during the inventory process have been placed in the archives of the Pori Art Museum. This archived material includes microfilmed images from the artist’s sketchbooks and her personal collection of newspaper clippings and documents.

After the exhibition, those interested in Anja Karkku-Hohti’s work can access it through a slide series created during the documentation process.
