MEDIA RELEASE
MU PORI O YLLÄTTÄVÄ KAUNIS (MY PORI IS SURPRISINGLY BEAUTIFUL)
November 29, 2013 – January 19, 2014
Mu Pori o yllättävä kaunis presents landscapes from the capital city of the region. It includes elements strongly tied to the Pori identity and others so obvious yet so unfamiliar that we don’t see them until they leap out at us. Pori is home to a diverse group of photographers who love their city—each with their own routes, perspectives, and ideas. This exhibition is a compilation of these images, revealing surprises hidden behind every view.

About Mu Pori o kaunis
Mu Pori o kaunis is an open community where media content is created collaboratively. Anyone can share their photos, memories, experiences, and tips on the community’s website and social media platforms. The initiative began in the fall of 2012 as a Facebook group where people share photos of Pori. In spring 2013, the website muporiokaunis.fi was launched, and in the fall, the Kaupunki- ja maisemakulttuuriseura ry association was established to support the activities.
The goal of Mu Pori o kaunis is to develop Pori’s urban culture and strengthen local identity. The community has previously produced photo exhibitions for events like Ilon ja valon Satakunta and Avaa oves, oot kaupunkipuistos!
About the Exhibition
The Mu Pori o yllättävä kaunis exhibition at Pori Art Museum features around 100 photographs by dozens of contributors to the Facebook group and website. These photographers are everyday people passionate about photography—women and men, girls and boys, ranging from retirees to students. Anyone can be a great photographer, and beauty can be found in anything from a foggy rainy day to a colorful graffiti mural.
The exhibition starts with a typical flow of images from the Facebook group and progresses to more surprising and abstract perspectives of Pori.
Special Highlight:
During the opening of the Mu Pori o yllättävä kaunis exhibition, the Mu Pori o kaunis 2014 wall calendar will be launched. The calendar is available for purchase at the Pori Art Museum shop, and all proceeds will support the community’s activities.
