ME, MYSELF, NYKARLEBY [THE WORLD] AND I – Albert Braun
The German-born artist Albert Braun (born Vilseck, 1958) explores the nature of identity, using as an example his Swedish-speaking hometown of Nykarleby in Finland. Braun sees himself as a foreigner who observes his surroundings and life with undisguised interest, critically, narratively and also with humour. His works combine documentary photographic printouts with objects and structures. Braun looks at parochialism and romantic nationality with an ironic twinkle in his eye.
