KAI´RO -Lara Baladi

Kai´ro. The works of Lara Baladi (b. 1969 in Beirut, Lebanon) blend Islamic motifs with Barbie kitsch and pop culture. Together Baladi´s photographic collages, installations and videos are like a mosaic whose allusions range from everyday life to the cinema, performance and advertisement imagery. Based in Cairo, Baladi grew up in Paris and London, where she graduated in 1990 with a BA from Richmond University. The show is produced in collaboration with BildMuseet, Umeå, Sweden; Nikolaj Copenhagen Contemporary Art Center, Denmark; and LänsMuseet Västernorrland, Härnösand, Sweden. A catalogue in four languages presenting Baladi´s work is published in conjunction with the exhibition.
