JEANNETTE CHRISTENSEN AND JYRKI SIUKONEN

PRESS RELEASE

Norwegian Jeannette Christensen and Finnish Jyrki Siukonen met in 1990 during the “Sommeratelier” exhibition in Hanover. Along with their friendship and mutual understanding, the idea of organizing a small joint exhibition in Norway and Finland was born. This became a reality in May of this year in Bergen, Norway. In August, the exhibition will travel to the Pori Art Museum in Finland.

The small exhibition does not have a grand overarching theme but touches on the question of the nature of the art object. Can it be merely a self-referential object, or is the relationship between the artwork, memory, and history more significant? In the exhibition brochure, Jyrki Siukonen advocates for the latter perspective. The exhibited works represent recent creations by both artists.

Jeannette Christensen (b. 1958) studied in Bergen and Paris. She began her career as a printmaker and painter but has recently focused on three-dimensional works, including installations made of jelly. The Pori exhibition marks her debut in Finland, after which she will spend a year working in New York.

Jyrki Siukonen (b. 1959) lives and works in Tampere, Finland. In recent years, he has primarily created spatial works and installations. His installation series “Leibniz Room” was exhibited at the Pori Art Museum in 1990.
