PRINTMAKING, DRAWINGS, PAINTINGS – INA COLLINDER

PRESS RELEASE

Ina Colliander (b. 1905 in St. Petersburg) studied both in Russia and Finland. From the very beginning of her artistic career, she has remained faithful to her chosen style of expression. The foundation of Colliander’s art lies in her youth spent in St. Petersburg and the devout Orthodox worldview she embraced there, characterized by deep spiritual contemplation. This is reflected in her solemn yet simple angelic figures rooted in the Byzantine tradition, with clear echoes of icon art. On the other hand, her woodcuts reveal the joyful use of color typical of Slavic folk art, as well as a delicate and sensitive touch reminiscent of Ellen Thesleff.

Ina Colliander has also created works in metal printmaking, particularly a series of drypoint etchings in the early 1960s. The paintings exhibited include oil paintings and luminous, airy watercolors primarily painted in Central and Southern Europe, executed in the spirit of the French tradition of color art. There are also a few works in colored chalk.

The exhibition features a total of 62 works.
