JUHANI KOIVUMÄKI: HEIJASTUS (REFLECTION)
Juhani Koivumäki’s works span a range of media, from traditional cinematic storytelling to experimental film, video art, photography, and installation. His pieces explore universal themes, particularly the spiritual development of humanity.
The short film Heijastus portrays the world of a newborn child before they adopt society’s concepts of time, place, and the distinction between self and everything else. The film incorporates kinetic techniques and was partially shot using an infrared camera. During production, dancers specializing in contact improvisation contributed to the process.
Juhani Koivumäki was born in Hämeenlinna in 1981. He was named Young Artist of the Year in the Häme region in 2002 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2008. Koivumäki has held several solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions. His video works have been featured at numerous short film festivals in Finland and internationally.
The premiere of Heijastus takes place simultaneously at the Pori Art Museum and the Art Fair Suomi 13 exhibition at the Cable Factory in Helsinki. The piece competes in the experimental short film category at the International Split Film Festival of New Film in Croatia in September 2013.
