PRINTMAKING, DRAWINGS, SCULPTURES – CIACOMO MANZÚ

PRESS RELEASE

Ciacomo Manzú, sculptor and graphic artist, was born in 1908 in Bergamo, Italy. After studying in Paris, he moved to Milan in 1930. Later, Manzú returned to Paris, delving deeply into modern art. By the late 1930s, his works were already garnering significant attention in Paris, Milan, New York, and at the Venice Biennale.

In addition to sculpture, drawing and etching have always been at the forefront of Manzú’s creative output. For Manzú, drawing is the visual expression of form, and to convey poetry through drawing, one must understand its structure, dimensions, and rhythm. Moreover, Manzú’s dedication to a select few themes revolving around the challenges of form demonstrates his mastery of figurative art and living forms.

In 1940, Manzú was appointed professor at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, as well as at the Academy in Turin. He has participated in numerous international exhibitions and has received significant accolades.

The exhibition of Ciacomo Manzú’s graphics and drawings presented in Finland is organized by Eurographica. The bronze sculptures on display are on loan from the collection of Ateneum Art Museum.
