KARHIAISSILMÄ, PAPILIO FISH, AND OTHER RARITIES AT PORI ART MUSEUM
Elements from the plant and animal kingdoms have been combined to create new imaginative species for exploration through metamorphosis. Each species is assembled from pressed plant parts and has been given a name, habitat, diet, and distinct characteristics related to reproduction and behavior.
Welcome to discover the long-eared worm, the aggressive Mosquito Cat from Jupiter, the Whisker Lapwing that lives off sock sweat and feeds on bellybutton lint, the friendly and passive Butterfly Master, and the Papilio Fish that inhabits misty, humid forests. The exhibit also includes the Rose Puff, which feeds on dewdrops, and the Karhiaissilmä, a very rare species living in brackish water, highly endangered due to polluted waters.
The “inhabitants” of this animal collection were created in workshops at the Pori Art Museum, with participants from the Pori Art School’s evening program, Winnovia Finnish language students, and the 5th-grade art class from Cygnaeus School. The workshops were led by Anne Roininen.
