PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, PRINTMAKING – ANITRA LUCANDER

PRESS RELEASE

Anitra Lucander, born in 1918, studied at the Free Art School from 1946 to 1949. She was among the first to represent abstract art in the early 1950s. Her works were first exhibited in Helsinki in 1951. After that, she quickly rose to prominence as an artist and has participated in numerous exhibitions abroad, reaching as far as the United States and China.

The current exhibition showcases light, airy, and partially abstract paintings. It features 42 works, most of which are the artist’s latest creations. In her newest pieces, despite their abstract impression, one can discern shapes and figures, often tinged with a hint of Impressionism. Drawings are also included, but Lucander herself is particularly focused on color.

In addition to her paintings, Anitra Lucander has designed textiles, including liturgical fabrics, and has served as a consultant for selecting colors in public buildings.
