LAURA LILJA
In the summer, a show by Pori-based artist Laura Lilja will open in the temporary exhibitions space in the Siipi annex. In her works, Lilja merges the practices of conceptual art with the deconstruction of political symbols. The show will feature her most recent works, installations made from used cargo straps that recall the traditions of classical landscape and colour field painting. This exhibition will mark the 50-year anniversary on Lilja and bring forth the locally committed artists oeuvre in its multifaceted connectedness to locality as well as aspects of for instance nationality and gender.
Laura Lilja (b. 1975) lives and works at Reposaari, an island in Pori archipelago. She has graduated as a Master of Arts in 2004 (then the university of the University of Art and Design Helsinki, current Aalto University). Her works are widely part of different collections in Finland (for instance the national collection, Kuntsi and Hämeenlinna Art Museums).
